Remove build-up and contamination from mist eliminator profiles


Prior to or after many industrial processes and scrubbing applications mist eliminators (demisters/coalescers) helps remove droplets and particulate from gas streams. These mist eliminators can help to protect down stream equipment or ensure clean exhaust output to the atmosphere. However, over time these mist eliminators can become over-loaded with moisture or suffer from scale or residue build-up, decreasing their effectiveness and increasing the pressure drop through these elements.

There are two basic types of mist eliminators, mesh and vane, both of which can be kept clean and in optimal operation by spray nozzle wash systems. Depending on the systems, spray nozzles can provide appropriate deluge/impact cleaning or distribute effective cleaning chemicals over mist eliminator elements for effective washing.

Selecting a Mist Eliminator Wash Nozzle:

Important factors to consider:

  • Size & shape of target mist eliminator
  • Process velocity, pressure, temperature, and fluid composition
  • Materials of construction for corrosive environments
  • Available nozzle mounting locations
    • Distance from nozzle to mist eliminator surface
    • Nozzle orientation
  • Available / required flow rates and coverage densities
  • Available pressure drop (∆P) across the nozzle
    • ∆P = supply pressure at nozzle inlet - process pressure outside nozzle
